SBIR/STTR Program Overview
The Department of Health and Human Services’ (National Institute of Health (NIH), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and Food and Drug Administration (FDA)) SBIR/STTR program provides over $8M in non-dilutive grant funding per project to individual companies developing and commercializing innovative healthcare-related products and services.
Company Eligibility
A company must meet the eligibility requirements to receive an SBIR/STTR grant including 1) a for-profit business, 2) operate primarily within the United States, 3) at least 50% owned by United States citizens, and 4) possess less than 500 employees.
SBIR/STTR Funding Opportunities
The SBIR/STTR program solicits proposals through broad-topic, investigator-initiated funding opportunities (Omnibus Solicitations) as well as targeted funding opportunities (Specific Opportunities).
Required Company Registrations
The Department of Health and Human Services requires a company to complete four registrations to submit a proposal. These four registrations include: System of Award Management (SAM), eRA Commons, Grants.gov, Small Business Administration (SBA).
