A Walk Through Our Process

At Blue Haven Grant Consultants (BHGC), we have thought a lot about the process of securing funding for early-stage medical technology companies. Companies like yours are not only exciting economic opportunities but are also advancing the field of human health! This aligns with the mission of the NIH and why the SBIR/STTR grant program exists. There is high competition for these funds and not all innovative ideas get to benefit from these grants. BHGC wants to make sure that your idea does and we marshal our experience and expertise in the SBIR/STTR grant world to help you move from concept to commercialization.

There are numerous grant writing resources and service providers in the SBIR/STTR grant writing space. However, unlike writing grants on your own or working with a company that will teach you how to write a grant, BHGC takes a collaborative approach to help your company secure SBIR/STTR grant funding. Grant writing is a specialized skill set that we suspect your early-stage team might not have yet developed. Taking the risk of paying for this grant writing expertise, however, might also be off putting. That’s why at BHGC, we have adopted a “BHGC Pay Upon Award”™ model so that you have zero financial risk in pursuing a grant.

Getting To Know You

Depending on the funding path you’re looking toward (Phase I or Phase II) we’ll take one to two months to learn about you, your company, and your innovation. We know that each business is different, so writing your grant won’t be a one-size-fits-all approach. We’ll help you evaluate where your project is in terms of readiness, alignment with NIH institutes or centers, and general grant competitiveness. We’ll also work with you to make sure that all procedures and eligibility requirements have been met. We want to make sure that your company is in the ideal position to apply for a SBIR/STTR grant.

Application and Review

Grant writing is probably what most people think of first when they think of grant processes. BHGC will collaborate with you to do market analysis, budgeting, and application section writing that leads to a well written and fundable grant. Through our proprietary Significance-Innovation Analysis™ process, we’ll help you identify the most compelling elements of the problems you are addressing with your innovative solution and craft a comprehensive and cohesive story that will help grant reviewers understand the importance of your project.

A successful grant application doesn’t end after hitting the submit button, however. We believe there is great value for our clients by navigating them through the entirety of the application process. When you receive your impact score and summary statement, we’ll be there to help evaluate and craft the necessary follow ups and rebuttals. With our “BHGC Pay Upon Award”™ model, you can rest assure we’ll be there for you until you receive the notice of award and then afterwards.

Reporting and Completion

Following the notice of award, there is still work to do. While many grant writing consultants may have already cashed your check, in contrast, BHGC will be there to support you through the reporting and completion of a project. Granting agencies require follow-up reporting we have experience producing. Part of our collaborative approach is to make sure that we take care of the grant form and processes with you so that your team can focus on the project and research itself. Leave the compliance and reporting to us.

We know that funding isn’t the only thing that makes a medical technology company successful, but it is certainly a key part of any early-stage company’s pathway to success. We want to help you achieve the commercial success you’re seeking by helping you secure non-dilutive funding and collaborating with you throughout the grant entire life-cycle. With over a decade of experience, we strongly believe in our low risk, collaborative, and results oriented approach. If you have questions about our approach or think that our approach matches the needs of your company, you can contact us to set up a free SBIR/STTR consultation. We can’t wait to work with you!
